Companies That Sponsor H-1B: How to Check a Sponsor

Updated 2026-10-214 min readNot legal advice inWX
QUICK ANSWER

You can check whether a company sponsors H-1B workers in two free datasets: DOL's LCA disclosure files and the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub. Each one shows a different step of the process. Used together, they give a fair picture of a company's sponsorship history.

Find H-1B sponsor jobs for your role

Every job is from an employer that filed H1Bs in 2025. See which ones fit your resume.

Step 1: Look up the company's LCAs

Before filing an H-1B petition, an employer must get a Labor Condition Application (LCA) certified by the Department of Labor.

DOL publishes these cases as Excel files on its OFLC performance data page. The latest file covers determinations from October 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.

The record layout lists the fields in each file. The most useful ones for a job seeker are below.

  1. EMPLOYER_NAME and CASE_STATUS: who filed and what DOL decided.
  2. JOB_TITLE and SOC_TITLE: the role and its official occupation.
  3. WORKSITE_CITY and WORKSITE_STATE: where the worker would work.
  4. WAGE_RATE_OF_PAY_FROM and PREVAILING_WAGE: the offered pay and the required minimum.
  5. PW_WAGE_LEVEL: the wage level from I to IV, when the employer used OES data.
  6. SECONDARY_ENTITY: whether workers will be placed with another company.
  7. H-1B_DEPENDENT: whether the employer says it is H-1B dependent.

Step 2: Check USCIS petition decisions

The USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub covers fiscal year 2009 onward. It now includes data through quarter 3 of fiscal year 2026.

You can search by fiscal year, employer name, city, state, ZIP code or NAICS industry code. You can also download the data as Excel or CSV.

The hub counts approvals and denials for new employment and for continuing employment. Continuing cases include extensions and some transfers.

USCIS says the data reflects its first decision on each petition. Later decisions, such as appeals or revocations, are left out. Pending petitions are not included.

Which companies sponsor the most

In fiscal year 2025, Amazon had the most H-1B petitions approved for new employment, 4,644, according to an NFAP analysis of USCIS data. Meta (1,555), Microsoft (1,394) and Google (1,050) followed, and Tata Consultancy Services was fifth.

Counts differ by source. The USCIS hub lists each legal entity separately, so a company's total depends on how you group its entities.

Big names are not the only option. Many thousands of smaller employers file each year, often for a few roles. Browse find sponsors hiring now.

Are companies still sponsoring after the $100,000 fee?

Yes, but fewer are entering the lottery. FY 2027 registrations fell 38.5% to 211,600, and USCIS still got enough petitions to reach the cap.

The fee mainly hit hiring from abroad. A Congressional Research Service report says initial petitions for consular processing from cap-exempt employers fell 91% in the fee's first eight months.

Hiring people already in the US continues. Granted changes of status and transfers were not covered by the fee, and courts have blocked it as of October 2026.

Companies that cut back in 2025 and 2026

These are the cutbacks we could confirm from public reports. Fewer lottery registrations do not always mean a company stopped all sponsorship, since many still file extensions and transfers. Check the latest LCA quarter before you rule one out.

  • Walmart paused offers to candidates who need H-1B visas, mostly in corporate roles, in October 2025, Bloomberg and Newsweek reported. Walmart said it is being thoughtful about its H-1B hiring approach.
  • Tata Consultancy Services: its CEO said in October 2025 the company did not expect to add new H-1B workers for now. A TCS spokesperson later said it still sponsors for select roles, mainly renewals and amendments.
  • Cognizant, Infosys and Tata: the CRS reports their FY 2027 lottery registrations fell 100%, 91% and 95% from the year before.

Companies that hire students on OPT

ICE publishes the top 200 employers of OPT and STEM OPT students each year. In the 2024 list, Amazon led with 10,167 students, followed by the University of California, Google, Microsoft and Meta.

STEM OPT also needs an employer enrolled in E-Verify. You can check that in the E-Verify employer search.

What the numbers mean

Many recent LCAs for your job title in your area suggest the company hires people like you. Steady USCIS approvals across years suggest a long-running program.

Approvals for continuing employment suggest the company keeps workers and extends their status. That can matter if you plan to stay for years.

The LCA wage fields let you compare offers. You can see what the company stated it would pay for similar roles.

What the numbers don't mean

A certified LCA is not a hire. It is filed before the USCIS petition, and it can list more than one worker position.

USCIS identifies employers by the last four digits of their tax ID. The most common spelling of each name is used, so one company may appear under several names.

The city and state in the hub are the employer's mailing address. USCIS says that is not necessarily where the worker works.

Fiscal year in the hub means the year USCIS decided the case, not when it was filed. The data is updated quarterly, so recent years may be incomplete.

DOL also warns that some fields contain employer typos or blanks. A small share of determinations can change in later releases.

Most important, a past H-1B filing doesn't guarantee an employer will sponsor a given role. Sponsorship depends on the job, the team and the company's current policy.

Other signals in the data

LCA files mark the type of each request. CHANGE_EMPLOYER means the worker will move from another employer, so it hints at how often a company hires transfers.

NEW_EMPLOYMENT means a new worker for that employer. CONTINUED_EMPLOYMENT means an extension with the same employer.

The H-1B_DEPENDENT flag also matters. CRS explains that a dependent employer has more than 50 workers, with H-1B workers making up at least 15 percent.

Every LCA filer must keep a public access file within one working day of filing. It holds the LCA, the pay rate and the prevailing wage source.

A faster way to compare sponsors

Raw files are large and hard to read. Our /h1b-sponsors page lists top sponsors with their filings, transfers and pay in one place.

If you already hold H-1B status, also read /h1b/h1b-transfer before you talk to a new employer.

Questions

Where can I see which companies sponsor H-1B?

Use DOL's LCA disclosure files and the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub. Both are free and public.

Does a certified LCA mean the company hired an H-1B worker?

No. An LCA is filed before the USCIS petition. It does not show that a petition was filed or approved.

Why does the same company show up under different names?

Filings come from employer entries. USCIS uses the most common spelling per tax ID, and DOL notes entry errors can occur.

If a company sponsored before, will it sponsor me?

Not necessarily. A past filing doesn't guarantee sponsorship for a given role. Ask the employer directly.

Which companies sponsor the most H-1B visas?

In fiscal 2025, Amazon led new-employment approvals with 4,644, followed by Meta, Microsoft and Google, per NFAP's analysis of USCIS data. Tata Consultancy Services was fifth.

Are companies still sponsoring H-1B after the $100,000 fee?

Yes. FY 2027 registrations fell 38.5% to 211,600, but USCIS still reached the cap, and hiring of people already in the US was largely untouched by the fee.

Which companies stopped sponsoring H-1B?

Walmart paused offers to H-1B candidates in October 2025, and TCS said it did not plan to add new H-1B workers. Cognizant, Infosys and Tata cut FY 2027 registrations by 91% to 100%, per the CRS.

Which companies hire international students on OPT?

ICE's yearly SEVIS by the Numbers report lists the top 200 OPT and STEM OPT employers. Amazon, the University of California, Google, Microsoft and Meta led the 2024 list.
