How Do Canadians and Mexicans Find TN Jobs?
Look for US jobs whose duties match a USMCA profession, then target employers that already hire foreign workers and tell recruiters early that TN has no lottery and often no USCIS filing. No public data lists TN employers, so use H-1B and E-Verify records as a proxy and say so when you ask.
Every job is from an employer that filed H1Bs in 2025. See which ones fit your resume.
Start with the profession, not the title
Read the TN professions list first. Then search for jobs whose actual duties fit one of them, such as engineer, accountant, computer systems analyst or registered nurse.
A role that looks right but has mixed duties, like a mostly-coding analyst job, can fail at the border. Pick postings where the fit is obvious.
Why there is no TN employer list
H-1B and E-3 employers file labor condition applications, which the Labor Department publishes. TN has none, and CBP does not publish TN approvals by employer. So we cannot tell you how many TN workers any company hires.
| Employer | H-1B filings | Transfers | Median pay |

Use other visa records as a proxy
An employer that files H-1B paperwork has a legal team and is used to hiring people who need status. That makes TN an easy ask. Browse H1B sponsors and H1B jobs by role.
E-Verify employers are another signal of a structured hiring process. These are proxies only. Always confirm with the employer.
How to pitch TN to a recruiter
- No lottery, no cap and no labor condition application.
- Canadians can often be approved at the border in one day.
- Status lasts up to three years and renews with no limit.
- The $100,000 H-1B payment does not apply.
- The employer mainly provides a detailed job letter.
Answer the sponsorship question
Many forms ask whether you will need sponsorship. Because the employer must support your TN, most attorneys suggest answering yes and explaining in a comment box: "Canadian citizen, TN eligible. No lottery; employer provides a support letter." See how to ask about sponsorship.
Software engineers and nurses
Software roles are the most common TN request and the most scrutinized. Since June 2025, USCIS guidance says engineers in computer jobs need computer or software engineering credentials, and computer systems analysts cannot be mainly programmers.
Nurses have strong demand in many states, but you need a license for the state where you will work and a health care worker certificate. See nurse visa options.
Remote and cross-border work
TN is for work done in the US. If you plan to work for a US company from home in Canada or Mexico, that is a different situation, often governed by your own country's rules. Get advice before you assume you need, or do not need, a TN.
If you do move, the employer letter should describe where you will work in the US. You can match sponsor jobs to your resume and filter by city or role.
Not legal advice
This is general information as of October 21, 2026, not legal advice. Rules and fees change, so confirm your situation with an immigration attorney.
Questions
Which companies hire TN workers?
There is no public TN employer data. Employers that file H-1B paperwork or use E-Verify are a reasonable proxy, but confirm with each one.
Is it hard to get a TN job as a software engineer?
The jobs exist, but the TN fit needs care. You generally need a computer or software engineering degree, or a systems analyst role that is not mainly programming.
Do I tell employers I need a TN?
Yes, early. TN needs the employer's support letter, so say you need it and explain there is no lottery.
Can I look for US jobs while visiting?
Visitors can generally attend interviews. You cannot start work until you have TN status for that job.
Do I need a TN to work remotely for a US company from Canada?
TN covers work performed in the US. Work done from Canada raises different rules, so check with an adviser.
